Mali Finch: 100% Clean Act is the next step

News | Daily Hampshire Gazette

Imagine living in a world where windmills and solar panels are the norm, and fossil fuels are completely phased out. This is the world I envision.

We need urgent action on climate change and no more business-as-usual. We are already seeing the impacts throughout the world — sea levels are rising, storms are increasing, and wildfires are becoming rampant. Transitioning to 100% renewable energy is the necessary next step to move us in the right direction. If this action is not taken there will be detrimental outcomes for the whole planet.

As Alejandra Borunda said, “Hitting the Paris Agreement targets will still result in rising seas. Missing them would make things worse.” (Borunda, 2019). The issue is in Massachusetts we’ve been too slow to act. However, there is momentum with the passage of S9, a climate bill that aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

But more importantly, we need a commitment to 100% clean, renewable sources of energy. That’s why I’m writing this letter in support of the 100% Clean Act, filed by Rep. Decker, Rep. Garballey and Sen. Boncore.

I urge Massachusetts lawmakers to prioritize this act and help push it forward so we can take the next step to tackling climate change.
